Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Resigns and Leaves the Country, Sister Rehana Accompanies Her

 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly resigned and left the country, accompanied by her sister, Sheikh Rehana. Various media outlets in the country have been abuzz with news of her resignation and subsequent departure.

In the early hours of Monday, August 5, at around 2:30 am, a military helicopter departed from Bangabhaban with Sheikh Hasina on board. Sources indicate that the helicopter transported them to West Bengal, India. This significant development comes amidst escalating political tensions within the country.

Director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Shammi Ahmed confirmed to the BBC that Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman is currently engaged in discussions with leaders of all political parties to resolve the ongoing crisis. Additionally, news agency AFP reported that Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana were moved to a safe location from Ganobhaban.

Before leaving, Sheikh Hasina intended to record a speech, but she was unable to do so. The situation continues to evolve as the military and political leaders work towards a resolution.
